RareUI

Pin checked 2026-10-03 CST. Primary: site + GitHub + sponsors + Exa. Field: X chatter strong; Reddit/HN empty for this product.

A curated gallery + install pipeline for “rare” microinteraction-style React pieces — folder flaps, proximity sidebars, WebGL fluid orbs, gooey nav, gravity letters — positioned as tasteful standouts rather than a full design system.

Built by design engineer Swami Malode (@SwamiMalode, swamii.me, GitHub swamimalode07/rare-ui). Repo created 2026-06-10; public launch messaging around late June 2026 (LinkedIn intro with the folder animation).

Stack: Next.js, Tailwind CSS, TypeScript, animations via Motion, distribution as a shadcn registry. Every component is meant to honor prefers-reduced-motion.

  • Frontend / design engineers shipping Next.js + Tailwind + shadcn apps who want distinctive motion beyond default shadcn primitives.
  • Positioned against “docs-site shadcn look”: field posts treat Rare UI as the motion / rare layer alongside primitives and block kits (RaulTechnically).
  • Inspiration + drop-in: people say they open it when they need ideas, not only when they need a package (codebydinil).
  • Not a complete UI kit (buttons/forms/tables). Small catalog (~17–19+ components depending on scrape) of specialty pieces.

Tagline on site: “Tasteful Components, Made to Stand Out.”

Terminal window
npx shadcn@latest add swamimalode07/rare-ui/{component-name}
# e.g.
npx shadcn@latest add swamimalode07/rare-ui/fluid-orb

Code lands in your tree (components/ui/...). No separate Rare UI npm runtime dependency — restyle freely.

NavigationBounce sidebar, Hook Sidebar, Proximity Sidebar, Scroll Progress, Gooey nav

Each component page: live preview, props table, install command, usage snippet, source view, credits. Example: Fluid Orb — WebGL ambient fluid shading inspired by ChatGPT voice mode; props color, size, className; reduced-motion → still frame.

Creator note on component pages: many pieces are recreations / reverse-engineers of work seen elsewhere, with credits; attribution appreciated; don’t resell as your own kit.

  • ~155K+ pageviews last month; ~180K+ since launch (site copy; LinkedIn earlier milestones mentioned 100k then larger totals — treat as marketing snapshots).
  • GitHub stars: site listed 582; Exa/GitHub scrape also showed ~345 at another moment — volatile / scrape-dependent.
  • Platform sponsors called out as Analytics + Docs sponsors; paid logo tiers (see Pricing).

4. How people use it (X / Reddit / HN field notes)

Section titled “4. How people use it (X / Reddit / HN field notes)”
  • Roundup staple: @voidyaps “goated ui design / animation collections” (~53k impressions, ~391 likes, 699 bookmarks) lists Rare UI with Obsidian UI, Design Spells, Transitions.dev. Recirculated by @surajtwt_ and many RTs.
  • Sponsor narrative: @runable_hq announced sponsoring Rare UI as free OSS with no paywall; amplified by @byteHumi. Swami’s own sponsors live post.
  • Usage framing: install via shadcn CLI, one file, own the code — repeated in explainers (incl. Grok replies) and Spanish threads (tarredev).
  • Clone / inspo discourse: occasional “is X a fork of Rare UI?” threads; peers push back that similar motion kits existed independently, while still calling Rare UI a top inspiration source.
  • Resource lists: Chinese/agent-facing bookmarks grouping Rare UI with Beautiful UI, BeUI, Transitions, shadcn (Cc_9930); share posts like dhruvtwt_.

No useful site:reddit.com rareui / product-matched hits in Exa; Reddit JSON search blocked from the box. No Reddit field signal found for this product.

Algolia for rareui.com and "Rare UI" / rare-ui → 0 relevant hits. Chatter is X/LinkedIn/dev-Twitter, not HN.

Creator milestones: launch folder component (~2026-06), 100k pageviews (~2026-08), 500+/1K+ star claims, Runable as first Diamond sponsor (~2026-09). Founders reportedly shipping components in products (anecdotal).

Caveats

  • Name collision: rareui.in / Codewithswappy/RareUI is a different free React + Framer Motion component library (larger “50–100+” catalog). Do not conflate with rareui.com.
  • Catalog is small and specialty — not a replacement for shadcn/ui, Radix, or Aceternity-style mega kits.
  • Many components are inspired recreations; check credits and originality needs for brand-sensitive work.
  • Star/pageview numbers on marketing pages drift; verify GitHub live if you care about social proof.
  • Motion-heavy; always test with reduced-motion and performance budgets (WebGL orb especially).

Alternatives / neighbors (from field roundups + adjacent space)

  • Obsidian UI — React/Tailwind components, blocks, landing templates
  • Design Spells — micro-interactions / easter-egg gallery
  • Transitions.dev — UI transitions (incl. agent/skill angle)
  • Aceternity UI, Magic UI, Animate UI, etc. — larger animated kits
  • Core shadcn/ui for primitives; Rare UI as the “rare motion” add-on

Listed as inspiration on BoringUI.
