These concept notes started as one combined research dump and are now one concept per document. Together they form a timeline braid of late-90s → early-2010s digital nostalgia that Gen Z/Alpha remix as one “vibe.” Treat them as layers you can mix deliberately, not synonyms.
Working thesis
Section titled “Working thesis”Default research braid = Frutiger / Win7 glass + Nekoweb craft + 88×31 + selective Y2K chrome + nightcore as media. Requiem Garden is Noa’s brand paint (sage paper from Noa’s private Requiem Garden repo). Personal-site visual direction is restarting from scratch — concept notes stay; no locked porch layout yet. Avoid flat-Metro-only and avoid pure GeoCities chaos unless the product is explicitly a shrine.

How they relate (quick)
Section titled “How they relate (quick)”- Y2K → Frutiger Aero is a succession: metallic sci-fi cool gives way to glossy eco-optimism.
- Windows XP Luna is the skeuomorphic plastic hinge (Bliss + wet-plastic chrome) — Frutiger-adjacent, not Aero glass; Royale (2005) is the glossier bridge.
- Win7 Aero is polished OS glass — steal chrome cues, don’t equate it with anime-shrine maximalism or XP plastic.
- Nightcore sits beside both: sped-up sound culture wrapped in anime stills — not a glass UI kit.
- Nekoweb / plain HTML is the craft layer: handmade density, mutual links, view-source pride.
- 88×31 is the badge grammar of that craft layer (Netscape Now / GeoCities / webrings) — deep dive in 88x31.
- Y2K layout (now inside Y2K) is the structure grammar: fixed-width two-column shells, tiled BG, status boxes, button rails — useful whenever a handmade homepage is wanted.
- Requiem Garden is Noa’s brand paint: extract from the private repo; herbarium / brand surfaces can share that soft sage world.
- Learning skeuomorphic UI craft is the how-we-learned layer: vendor taste (Aqua, Luna, Aero, iOS leather) + bottom-up craft (View Source, tutorials, skins, sozai). 88×31 and Aero glass are examples inside that curriculum, not the whole thing.
- Linux desktop shells (skeuomorph era) is the Linux dialect layer: Clearlooks plastic, Crystal cartoon gloss, Oxygen photo-polish, Compiz glass — a theme marketplace riding the same braid, not a third primary pole.
- Skeuomorph as accent, not mash: don’t stack Aqua + Luna + Aero + McBling in one viewport; product default stays Frutiger-calm (Frutiger Aero).
