Section titled “Gem: Tengile MalaMala — staggered serif hero / olive pull-quote”Why it fits the braid
Section titled “Why it fits the braid”Tengile MalaMala Collection (tengilemalamala.com, Awwwards) is a luxury safari lodge site that was a Site of the Day. It is not a handmade porch. The steal is editorial type on a garden palette: a full-bleed dark-green nature hero under a huge cream serif, then a warm sand page with an olive serif set like a pull quote.
Extra same-day gem, pulled from Awwwards (first use of that shelf). Morning gem that day was Floral Triptych.
Layout / craft patterns worth stealing
Section titled “Layout / craft patterns worth stealing”- Almost no chrome: ENQUIRE left, wordmark centered, MENU right, all tiny sans on the photo. The headline does the branding.
- Staggered display serif: “UNMATCHED / ABUNDANCE” in a light high-contrast serif, cream on the dark foliage. Two lines, the second sitting further right, so it reads as a poster, not a centered H1.
- One quiet CTA: a small white pill (“Explore Collection →”) under a short serif deck. A second “Play Video” pill sits low, out of the way.
- Palette switch, not a new theme: hero is moody green; the next screen is warm cream/sand with olive type. Same family, two rooms.
- Giant serif, narrow body: the scrolled section is one oversized olive paragraph, then a tiny “LODGES” label and a narrow sans column, then a three-up photo row. Scale does the hierarchy.
- Garden without cute: leaves, river light, and sand stand in for the soft-garden temperament of Requiem Garden, with none of the shrine chrome.
What not to copy
Section titled “What not to copy”- Luxury-lodge voice and safari copy. The type system travels; the brochure does not.
- Full-bleed video heroes as a default. This porch already has a still that carries the type. Motion was present on capture (hero imagery changing, lagged scroll) and is easy to overdo.
- Treating an award site as a personal homepage. Keep Awwwards as the contemporary-craft shelf, not the everyday Nekoweb one.
